For the launch of the brand new Tumbleweed Stargazer, the team wanted to do something different for their international launch campaign. The main challenge? It was 45 degrees outside and the mountains were still covered in snow. Luckily, our community connections came through and an amazing partnership with Edwards Greenhouse allowed us to bring our in-studio vision to life.
Everything in these frames was intended to be created practically from beginning to end. No photoshop, no animation, no CGI. This project forced us to think outside the box, using new materials and printing practices along with experimental lighting techniques that allowed us to blend the scene together in way that almost tricks the eye into believing the foreground and background are part of the same scene.
We'll never pass up an opportunity to create something beautiful. And if it offers us a chance to engage collaboratively with our community, we're even more sold on the idea. Working together with the amazing team at Edwards Greenhouse, we identified native plant species appropriate for the environment of our scene. A box truck of plants later, we filled the studio with dirt, grasses, sagebrush, and trees and set about crafting the environment by hand based.
This project came with a huge amount of creative freedom, something we're always grateful to lean into. After conducting thorough market research on trending outdoor product launches, we found sample images and production work that allowed us to accurately communicate the concept to Tumbleweed. It was a leap of faith, as the initial sketches were crude and imperfect, but the trust built throughout our relationship supported creative exploration that resulted in breath taking results.
While our team typically prides itself on in-depth creative retouching, our goal for this project was to accomplish the majority of the creative practically and in-camera. This meant that only light editing was needed to finalize the images for our print campaigns.
