Dreyfus capacity for psychedelic enchantment is second to none. Her characters float through rainbow filled worlds, dancing with clouds, and making mushroom friends. We worked along side Art of Play to develop visual assets to support the international of Dreyfus highly anticipated card deck.
Building upon the colorful word of Dreyfus animated style, we wanted to experiment with a combination of in-camera techniques and camera+rendered environments, all while remaining true to the physical product itself. The juxtaposition of real images in 3D rendered environments plays tricks on the eye, with practical shadows being cast across a card deck from an animated orb. The final result embraces Dreyfus sense of play and exploration while pushing our own creative boundaries.
The creative process for this project took us down a deep rabbit hole of experimentation, challenging out own processes and approaches along the way. Through a highly iterative process, environments were shaped and sculpted to support the overall composition of each frame. To tie the final package of assets together, a halftone process was applied across all of the images to add texture and depth.
Art of Play is a rare client who empowers creatives to explore their process. With very limited guidance or requirements for the project, we were left to develop our own approach for how to undertake the project. Their enthusiasm and excitement supported the process every step of the way.
